Reiki Q & A

WHAT IS REIKI?

Reiki is a Japanese healing modality that uses energy to promote healing, relaxation, stress and pain reduction. Reiki refers to the energy that all beings possess. During a treatment the practitioner channels Reiki to the client by gently placing their hands on or just above the client. Often the client experiences the Reiki Energy as warmth radiating throughout the body. Reiki treatments balance, increase and release unneeded energies to facilitate healing on all levels: physical and emotional, while creating greater self-awareness.

WHY REIKI?

Reiki is safe, effective and complements all healing modalities without the risks of adverse side-effects or complications. Reiki supports and enhances healing.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A REIKI MASTER OR AN RMT?

A Reiki Master is an individual who has received attunements and certification for Reiki Levels 1 and Level 2. A Reiki Master is certified to practice Reiki but cannot teach or perform attunements.
The highest level of certification, depending on the lineage, is a Reiki Master Teacher, Advanced Reiki Trainer or a Reiki Master of Masters. An RMT can teach, perform attunements (the backbone of Reiki), train and certify students at all levels including certifying RMTs.
As both a RMT and Advanced Reiki Trainer I continue to study other Reiki modalities, with some of the leading Reiki practitioners and teachers including, William Lee Rand, Libby Barnet, and Lourdes Gray.

WHAT CONDITIONS HAVE YOU TREATED?

Clients come in for a variety of reasons: first and foremost they’re experiencing symptoms that have been unresolved such as pain, or they’re experiencing panic attacks and or anxiety attacks. Other conditions that I have treated include neuropathy and migraines, as well as clients who have had strokes, autoimmune conditions as well supporting patients preparing for surgery or undergoing chemotherapy.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A SESSION?

Many clients experience a sense of warmth and relaxation throughout their bodies during a session. It’s not uncommon to have clients fall asleep during a Reiki Treatment.

DO I HAVE TO TAKE MY CLOTHES OFF?

No, the client remains clothed, though bulky garments such as sweatshirts, shoes and watches are removed.

DO I NEED TO BE TREATED ON A TABLE?

No, although most clients do lie on a table. I also treat clients in wheelchairs or seated, as well as offering Zoom sessions when mobility, transportation and health issues prevent a one-on-one, in-person session.

HOW DOES A REMOTE HEALING SESSION WORK?

Reiki can be channeled anywhere to any recipient. Distance or Absence Healing Sessions are ideal for clients  or their loved ones (including pets!) who are immune compromised, hospitalized, disabled or require immediate attention. These sessions are as effective as an in-person treatment.

If you’re requesting a session for someone other than yourself, I’ll need either a photograph or address of the individual or pet.  I will reach out to you after the session to share my observations with you.  If you’re requesting a session for yourself, I will set up a time to connect with you, discuss goals for the session – this can be done virtually on Zoom or by phone.  At the end of the session I will share my notes and observations with you.

HOW DO I FIND A REIKI PRACTITIONER?

Both the International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT) and the International Association of Reiki Practitioners (IARP) provide a directory of individuals who have received the highest level of certification either Advanced Reiki Trainer, Reiki Master Teacher or Reiki Master of Masters. In addition to their skills, these members have to adhere to professional standards of conduct.
